DISTURBANCE 2 NOW A DEPRESSION…DISTURBANCE 1 STILL MOVING WEST

The National Hurricane Centre continues to monitor multiple systems in the Atlantic however; two systems (Disturbance 2 now Tropical Depression 11 and Disturbance 1) are of immediate concern to the British Virgin Islands.

Residents should continue to monitor the systems and be prepared to take action in the event that they develop and pose a threat to the Territory.

Tropical Depression 11

Location: 13.0 North 53.5 West

Geographic Location: The centre of the depression eleven is about 824 miles south east of the BVI

Winds: 35 mph

Situation for the BVI

Forecasters are expecting Tropical Depression 11 to dissipate just of East of the Lesser Antilles on Sunday. Remnants may produce unsettled weather in the BVI early next week. Please note this information is based on the present forecast.

Disturbance 1 According to the National Hurricane Centre, showers and thunderstorms have been increasing since last evening near the centre of a low pressure system located about 550 miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands. NHC forecaster, Berg states,” Environmental conditions appear conducive for further development of this system, and a tropical depression could form during the next day or two while the low moves westward across the tropical Atlantic Ocean at about 20 mph”. The NHC also increased the chance of formation to 60% in 5 days.

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) will continue to monitor the systems and provide updates accordingly.
