The 2011 hurricane season is predicted to be more active than the average for the 1950-2000 seasons. The April 1st 2011 report estimates approximately 17 named storms, 9 hurricanes and 5 major hurricanes occurring during the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, which is more typical of years in an active era, such as the 1995 season.
