CDM Mainstreaming and Recovery Planning - Manager: Planning and Preparedness Manager

This Programme Area is focused on ensuring that CDM is mainstreamed in government ministries and in all sectors. It includes a focus on disaster and emergency planning and related testing and updating. In addition, this area envisions the establishment of ‘CDM Liaison Officers’ (as per the Disaster Management Act of 2003) or ‘Focal Points’ in each government department and each sectoral agency to further mainstreaming and to ensure that the DDM has an adequate counterpart to anchor its initiatives. With regards to recovery, this involves measures necessary to re-establish a stable, social, physical and economic basis to a community affected by a disaster. The DDM provides support to the Premier’s Office for recovery coordination where possible. Furthermore, a finalization of the National Recovery Plan and recovery planning in the private sector and financial sector, among other areas of activities, are envisioned.

Capacity Building (Training Officer)
This sub-programme area is focused on the provision of critical training for emergency responders and CERT teams as well as volunteers. In addition, activities will be pursued to clarify various roles and responsibilities of key actors in emergency response, including running simulations in all sectors and with all government departments in order to build capacity to provide effective response.

DDM EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM
Tropical Watch

The 2010 hurricane season is predicted to be more active than the average for the 1950-2000 seasons. The December 2009 report estimates approximately 11-16 named storms, 6-8 hurricanes and 3-5 major hurricanes occurring during the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season, which is more typical of years in an active era, such as the 1995 season.
