People of the Virgin Islands, this is Governor Jaspert.
I am pleased to now be able to give you the ‘All Clear’ for the Territory, following Hurricane Maria.
This decision was taken after consultations with the Premier and the Director of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).
We are satisfied that the immediate threat posed by Hurricane Maria to the Territory is over as the hurricane warning has been lifted and the main roads have been cleared.
We wish to thank the emergency and essential workers whose efforts on Wednesday have helped to unblock roads. I also give thanks to the police forces, including those from the UK, Bermuda and Cayman here and the British military, who were immediately ready to help ensure security was maintained, and aid and recovery could re-start.
While the all clear has been given, assessments and recovery works are still ongoing and the curfew remains in place until 9:00 o’clock, this morning as usual. We ask you to adhere to this curfew as we resume our relief and recovery efforts
Thank you and may God Bless all of us in this Territory.
