Principal Wade Tobin, Teachers and Students of the BVI Seventh Day Adventist
School (SDA) participated in a Health and Safety Fair organised by the
Department of Disaster Management (DDM) in conjunction with the Ministry of
Health and Social Development, Environmental Health Division, Virgin Islands
Fire & Rescue Services; Conservation & Fisheries Department, and
volunteers from the BVI Red Cross. The Fair took place Monday, 17 March 2015
between 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the school and all students were given the
opportunity to participate in the various demonstrations.

The objective of the fair was to increase awareness of the elements of a
SMART (Safe, Healthy, and Green) School and demonstrate the various activities that
need to be incorporated into the daily routine of students to ensure that their
school environment remains Safe, Healthy and Green.

The DDM have provided a pictorial display of the various activities that
took place at the school this morning. We were very pleased with the level of
interest shown by the children and the support provided by Principal Tobin and
our local partners.

The SMART Schools Pilot project has been endorsed by
the Ministry of Education and Culture and is being implemented in the three schools
in Sea Cows Bay. This pilot project is financially supported by CDEMA through
the Austrian Development Agency. For more information on the SMART Schools
Project please contact the DDM at 284 468 4200 or email us at [email protected].
