The Department of Disaster Management is holding a community meeting on Virgin Gorda, June 5th 2013 at the Catholic Community Centre at 7pm. Topics to be discussed includes: The Hurricane Season Preparations and the establishment of a Virgin Gorda Community Emergency Response Team.
June 11 – 15, 2013 at the Catholic Community Centre the Department of Disaster Management in collaboration with BVI Red Cross, Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and VI Fire and Rescue Services will be conducting Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training. The objectives of the training are to build local disaster management capacity in the community and to establish a cadre of trained CERT team members on Virgin Gorda.
It is expected that CERT training will equip participants with basic disaster response skills to enable each to provide emergency support and assistance to the community; as well as act as disaster management advocates within the Virgin Gorda community.

Persons who participate in this training will also get the opportunity to become CPR certified.
