DISTURBANCE 1 WEAKENS SLIGHTLY…HIGH CHANCE OF HEAVY RAINS FOR THE VI

The National Hurricane Centre has reduced the strength of Disturbance 1 however persons should continue to monitor the system until it is clears the local area.

The National Hurricane Centre has indicated shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a tropical wave that is moving through the Leeward Islands has continued to become less organized tonight.  Environmental conditions are not expected to become significantly better for development, and the system is also expected to interact with the islands of the Greater Antilles during the next few days.  Therefore, the potential for this system to become a tropical or subtropical cyclone continues to decrease.  Regardless of development, this system is forecast to bring locally heavy rainfall to portions of the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico over the next few days the NHC states. The NHC has now reduced formation chance to 30% through 48 hours and formation chance of 40% through 5 days based on the current forecast.

The Virgin Islands

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services has indicated the possibility of rainfall amounts between 2 – 2.5 inches during the passing of the system. A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect as seas between 6 to 7 feet are currently affecting the Territory.
