FLASH FLOOD WARNING
ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES

THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
THE ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE HAS UPGRADED THE
FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS
OF THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS VALID FROM 12 NOON UNTIL 4PM TODAY THURSDAY.
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOODING IS
IMMINENT OR OCCURRING IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS.
A WEAK SHEARLINE WITH SUPPORT IN THE MID TO UPPER ATMOSPHERE OVER
THE NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN IS INFLUENCEING THE WEATHER OVER THE BVI. IF YOU ARE IN
THE WARNING AREA MOVE QUICKLY TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY. RESIDENTS LIVING GHUTS,
LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT
LIFE AND PROPERTY. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS SWIFTLY FLOWING WATERS OR WATERS OF
UNKNOWN DEPTH BY FOOT OR BY VEHICLE. NOTE, JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS BE
EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS, AND IF IN DOUBT, MAKE THE SMART CHOICE, TURN AROUND DONT
DROWN. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
THE METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE SITUATION.
