FLASH FLOOD WATCH COULD BE UPGRADED AT SHORT NOTICE

July 7, 20111227Views
4:30pm -Clouds associated with the
combination of a tropical wave and upper trough will continue to move over the
Leewards and BVI tonight and tomorrow

As a result of these conditions the  Flash Flood Watch which was issued earlier for the Virgin Islands has been extended until 10pm tonight.  Due to the atmospheric vulnerability, the flash flood watch could be upgraded to
a warning at short notice. Residents are advised to monitor this site for further advisories.

A Flash flood watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flash flooding in flood-prone areas where grounds are already saturated from recent rains.

Winds are expected to flow from ESE-ENE at 6-16 knots with higher gusts in some showers.

Seas are moderate to rough with swells 1.5-2.1m or 5-7ft. A small craft warning is in effect.

The DDM will continue to monitor the system and provide additional information as the day progresses.
