FLASH FLOOD WATCH

ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLGICAL SERVICES

7:07 PM ECT, AUG 21, 2014

ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLGICAL SERVICES HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THE LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS OF THE BRITISH VIRGIN
ISLANDS VALID FROM 2A.M. OVERNIGHT UNTIL 8 A.M. TOMORROW.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT
COULD LEAD TO MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOODING IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS.

MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH AN AREA OF
DISTURBED WEATHER, WHICH COULD FURTHER DEVELOP, WILL MOVE ACROSS THE BRITISH
VIRGIN ISLANDS OVERNIGHT WITH PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS THAT ARE
EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE ISLANDS FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH TO TOMORROW. MODERATE
TO MAJOR FLOODING OF LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS ARE POSSIBLE.

PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO SAFE GUARD LIFE AND PROPERTY.
FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION HENCE YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER
FORECASTS AND MOVE QUICKLY TO A SAFE LOCATION IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED OR
IMMINENT, OR IF A FLASHFLOOD WARNING IS ISSUED. NOTE ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER
IS ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS, BE
EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS, AND IF IN DOUBT, MAKE THE SMART CHOICE: TURN AROUND, DON’T
DROWN. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES WILL CONTINUE TO
MONITOR THE SITUATION AND ISSUE LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE W
ARNINGS.
