FLASH FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR THE BVI

Due to the abundance of moisture experienced from a through system earlier in the morning, the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services has issued a Flash Flood Watch until 4PM this afternoon.  As more showers and heavy downpours are possible these conditions can be upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning at short notice.

A flash flood watch means when conditions are favorable for flash flooding in flood-prone, usually when grounds are already saturated from recent rains, or when upcoming rains will have the potential to cause a flash flood.

A tropical wave is expected to approach the area on Sunday. As the wave moves across the area and interacts with the upper level trough there is the possibility for more showers and thunderstorms to develop during that period.

Residents are urged to exercise caution while driving on roads as some areas have experienced flooding of roadways, destabilized hillsides and rock falls.

Persons at home and abroad are encouraged to download the DDM’s Alert app in the apple app store or Google play store to receive updates of any hazards affecting the territory.

You can also visit the DDM’s webpage at www.bviddm.com and subscribe for updates or like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/bvi.ddm.
