FLASH FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR THE VIRGIN ISLANDS

May 14, 2011811Views

The Antigua and Barbuda meteorological service has issued a flash flood
watch for low lying and flood prone areas of the British Virgin Islands valid
from 7 p.m. tonight until 7 a.m. Sunday.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to moderate
to major flooding in low lying and flood prone areas.

Residents living in low lying areas should take the necessary precautions to
protect life and property.

A persistent trough continues to destabilize the weather over theNortheast Caribbean.
Latest satellite pictures are showing significant convection moving into the
islands from the southwest. Rainfall models are also suggesting significant
rainfall overnight. There is a high chance for the outbreak of thunderstorms.

The Department of Disaster Management will continue to monitor the situation
and advise the public accordingly. Please subscribe to the DDM’s notification
