Dear Residents and Visitors,
As you are aware Tropical Storm Gonzalo is approaching the Virgin Islands and is expected to impact the Territory later this evening.
Forecasters predict that there is a possibility that Gonzalo it would become a hurricane by Monday evening prior to reaching the Virgin Islands.
Hurricanes are indeed powerful storms which can produce heavy rainfalls high winds and rip currents and Gonzalo is expected to produce large amounts of rainfall, thereby increasing the possibility of flooding.
It is important that we all prepare for each of these hazards. I strongly urge individuals, families, business and mariners to take the time now to secure your homes and businesses.
Make sure that you have an emergency kit well stocked with water, batteries, flashlights and non-perishable items.
My Government will mobilise all the resources necessary to ensure continuity of business and the orderly running of the Territory. Our resilience will strongly depend on how well we are all prepared. Remember that careful preparations can make a huge difference.
Government has activated the National Emergency Operations Centre and you are urged to remain vigilant and stay informed about the hazards that may impact the Territory.
Listen closely and heed instructions from the Department of Disaster Management.
Please also stay tuned for further updates and alerts from DDM, local media and cellphone providers.
Please remain indoors and stay safe.
