PUBLIC OFFICERS RECEIVE FIRE SUPPRESSION TRAINING

Thursday, December 2nd – The Department of Disaster Management facilitated a Fire Suppression Training Workshop for public officers.


The workshop, which was conducted by the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services Department exposed participants to primary causes of fire in the workplace, methods to prevent and extinguish fires and easily locate and operate fire extinguishers. In addition, attendees learned to periodically inspect and recharge extinguishers to ensure that they would work when needed.


Descriptions of extinguishers and the type of fires they are used for was given, as well as hands on demonstrations on the proper care and use of fire extinguisher.


Public officers representing the Premier’s Office, Departments of Information and Public Relations, Water and Sewerage, Elections Office, Internal Audit Unit, Ministry of Communications & Works and the Deputy Governor’s Office benefitted from the workshop.


The Workshop sessions were facilitated by Sub Officer Geraldo Barry of the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services Department.


The Department of Disaster Management remains committed to building the capacity of public officers and the public to be better prepared to deal with various hazards.
