TSUNAMI WATCH ISSUED IN ERROR

A 7.9 Earthquake has
occurred off the coast of Costa Rica at approximate 10:47 this morning. The earthquake
occurred about 87 miles west of the capital San Jose and was 28 miles deep. Inadvertently,
a tsunami watch was issued for the Caribbean by the Pacific Tsunami Warning
Center and was subsequently retracted because it was meant for the Pacific
region.

THE
TSUNAMI WATCH HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Earthquakes of this
size, in that particular region have the potential to generate a widespread
destructive tsunami that can affect coastlines across the entire Caribbean
region.

The DDM is urging all
residents to continue to be vigilant and to remain in a high state of
readiness.
