NATIONAL EARLY WARNING AND MULTI-HAZARD ALERT SYSTEM TEST

October 22, 20191647Views

The Department of Disaster Management is informing the public that the National Early Warning and Multi-hazard Alert System  will be tested, Friday October 25, 2019 at 2 pm. The test is carried out on the fourth Friday of every month.

The public is not expected to react to the sound of the emergency sirens and other alerts, as this is only a test. Schools and businesses are however encouraged to use the opportunity of the monthly system activation to test their contingency plans.

As a part of the test, the public is asked to tune into ZBVI, ZCBN, or ZCSS for test messages from the Department of Disaster Management. This test is being conducted to assess the automatic capabilities of the Emergency Alert System.

Members of the public are reminded that text messaging is part of the Early Warning System in the BVI, therefore text messages should be issued by the cell providers CCT, Digicel and LIME.

The Department of Disaster Management is grateful to the residents of the BVI for their ongoing support and cooperation in this regard.
