The National Hurricane Centre continues monitor Invest 95L which is showing signs of development as it moves west north west. Invest 95L at 5am, was located latitude 14 degrees north, longitude 48 degrees west or approximately 988 miles east southeast of the British Virgin Islands. The system is moving to the west northwest at 15 mph and at this speed should be near the BVI around Monday or Tuesday.
Forecasters have indicated Invest 95L still has time to move further north as it progresses closer, however residents should remain alert and have their plans activated in any event. If the system changes course and passes over the territory, we could experience storm force winds, rough sea conditions, showers and thunderstorms based on its current size and strength. The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services continues to issue Tropical Alert Statements for the Leeward and British Virgin Islands. This means the system is within the monitoring area of the met office and has the potential for further development whereas watches or warnings can be issued at short notice within the next 48 hours.
