HEAVY RAINFALL AFFECTS THE VIRGIN ISLANDS

19th September 2010An area of moisture is streaming north northeast across the southern Caribbean waters being drawn by a broad circulation around hurricane Igor will continue lifting northward today. Some of this moisture will affect the Virgin Islands later in the day increasing the chance of showers and thunderstorms today and tonight. Some of these thunderstorms would be capable of producing strong gusty winds of 35 mph or more along with locally heavy rainfall as they pass by.


 


As a result of the heavy rainfall, there have been areas that have been severely flooded. Residents and visitors are advised to stay off the roads as some roads have become impassable or dangerous to drive on. If driving becomes a must, please exercise extreme caution when doing so.
