Tropical Disturbance 42 appears to be close to becoming a tropical
depression this evening. Forecasters think that there is a good chance that the
National Hurricane Center will reclassify the disturbance as a tropical
depression within the next 24 hours. Model guidance is somewhat split with
respect to a potential tropical storm threat to the northeast Caribbean on
Sunday. The majority of models keep the center 100-200 miles north of the
eastern Caribbean, which forecasters think is what will most likely happen. But
there is a chance that the disturbance could develop into a tropical storm and
pass within 100 miles of the northeast Caribbean, possibly causing a few
squalls there. Chances of the disturbance becoming a hurricane prior to
reaching the northeast Caribbean appears to be low at this time.
Beyond the northeast Caribbean on Sunday, forecasters expect the
system to turn northward and pass near Bermuda around next Wednesday and
possibly become a threat to New foundland the following weekend.
Based on Model Guidance the system does not pose a threat to the
Virgin Islands however the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) will
