Following a flare up at the Pockwood Pond waste site on Friday evening, the BVI Fire and Rescue Services along with the Department of Waste Management continue to work to fully extinguish the smoldering fire and secure the site. Access to the hillside sections of the facility will remain restricted until further notice, and residents are urged to strictly adhere to the directions given by workers when disposing of waste on the site.

Persons with respiratory illnesses, particularly asthma are advised to leave areas affected by smoke until it subsides.

The Department regrets all inconvenience caused during this time, and can be reached at 468-4934 for more information.
