TSUNAMI EXERCISE WARNING MESSAGE

Wednesday, March 25 – Exercise Exercise Exercise…A Tsunami Warning has been issued for the British Virgin Islands by the National Tsunami Warning Centre in Palmer Alaska.  The information has been confirmed by the Puerto Rico Seismic Network.

According to information issued by the Centre, the 10:05 A.M. earthquake measuring 8.0M on the Richter scale occurred at a depth of 9 miles, north of Panama.

Widespread dangerous coastal flooding accompanied by powerful currents are possible and may continue for many hours after the tsunami arrival.  The first waves are expected to impact the BVI at 12:37pm.

ALL PERSONS ARE ASKED TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY and be alert to the instructions being issued by the Department of Disaster Management and the Royal Virgin Islands Police.

DO NOT go to the coast to observe the tsunami and DO NOT return to the coast until the Department of Disaster Management and the Royal Virgin Islands Police indicate that it is safe to do so.
