Exercise Exercise Exercise…A Tsunami Advisory has been issued for the BVI by the
National Tsunami Warning Centre in Palmer Alaska.

According to
information issued by the Centre, the 10:05 A.M. earthquake measuring 8.0M on
the Richter scale, occurred at a depth of 9 miles, north of
Panama.

            The advisory indicates that a
tsunami can be generated from this event and can produce strong currents or
dangerous waves. Current may be hazardous to swimmers, boaters and coastal
structures and may continue for many hours after the tsunami arrival.  The first wave to impact the coast may not be
the largest.

            The public is being asked to adhere
to the following actions: move off the beach and out of harbours and
mariners.  Widespread inundation of land
is not expected at this time; however, the Public is asked to be alert to
instructions from the Department of Disaster Management or the Royal Virgin
Islands Police Force.  Do not go to the
coast to observe the tsunami and do not return to the coast until the DDM or the
Royal Virgin Islands Police Force indicates that it is safe to do so.  Exercise Exercise
