FLASH FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR VI UNTIL 2PM

July 7, 2011901Views

An active tropical wave being somewhat enhanced by a mid level trough will continue to unsettle atmospheric conditions over the Virgin Islands today and tonight brining cloudy to overcast skies with widespread showers. Some of the showers could be heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms. As a result of these conditions a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the Virgin Islands until 2pm today in the first instance.

Flash flood watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flash flooding in flood-prone areas where grounds are already saturated from recent rains.

Winds are expected to flow from ENE-ESE at 12-18 knots and gusting in showers at times.
Seas are moderate in the waters south of the Virgin Islands with waves 1.2-1.5m or 4-5ft. For waters north of the area rough seas are expected at 1.8-2.4m or 6-8ft. Hence a small craft advisory remains in effect for above normal waves and low visibility.
The DDM will continue to monitor the system and provide additional information as the day progresses.
