OPERATION: TROPIC HIT

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) will host a Simulation Exercise on Friday, 11 January, 2012, between the hours of 6am – 12noon.

The Exercise code name “Operation Tropic Hit” surrounds the scenario of a cruise vessel in distress and it seeks to test the recently drafted procedures for managing cruise disasters. This exercise will also evaluate the Territory’s emergency response and interagency communication in response to the disaster scenario.

It is expected this exercise will not only further train our emergency responders, but will serve to bring greater awareness to the boating community towards the need for developing and testing emergency plans.

To effectively execute this exercise the Department is soliciting the assistance of at least 50 volunteers who will serve as victims.  In recognition of their efforts, DDM will provide the first 25 volunteers who register with an Appreciation Package which includes free cell phone airtime from Digicel or LIME.

The DDM expresses it appreciation to all those who volunteer to be part of this exercise as we seek to enhance the readiness of all sectors of the Territory to significantly reduce vulnerability to hazards of all kinds.

The public is asked to take note that this is just an exercise; there is no need to respond.  However, the DDM will greatly appreciate feedback and comments from the public.  After the exercise, please log on to www.bviddm.com to complete survey.

For further details on this exercise, please contact Carishma Hicks at 468-4200.
